Left Behind series authors Tim LaHaye and Jerry Jenkins have appeared numerous times on radio and television. One of the latest appearances was January 12, on The O'Reilly Factor with host Bill O'Reilly on FoxNews.
Promotions for the segment earlier that day referred to devotees of the series as a cult. O'Reilly is also well known for bringing his Catholic perspective into discussions on religion. Since the Catholic position on eschatology is amillennial, he could be assumed to question the premillennial view described in the Left Behind series. So, how did fans respond? We went to both The O'Reilly Factor and Left Behind Prophecy Club message boards to sample the opinion. More

Question:Where does the name Nicolae come from? Jerry: We get a lot of questions about that, because there is a verse in the Bible, Revelation 2:6, that refers to the Nicolaitans, which has nothing to do with Nicolae. People wonder why we picked that name, and why we made Nicolae a Romanian.
Based on Bible prophecies, we know the Antichrist will have Roman blood. And the cliché would have been to make him Italian. We wanted to do something different. The root word of Romania is Rome, and there are Roman ancestries represented in its population. Having visited Romania, I knew Nicolae is as common a name there as Joe is in America.
Nicolae's last name, Carpathia, I took from the Carpathian Mountains in that region. I didn't realize that the name of the ship that picked up survivors from the sinking of the Titanic was the Carpathia until I saw it on the screen in James Cameron's movie. I sometimes wonder if the name stuck in my memory from studying the history of the Titanic when I was a kid. But, in the end, I made up the name Nicolae Carpathia.
On Monday, January 24, the United Nations paused to commemorate the 60th anniversary of the liberation of the Auschwitz death camp and the end of the Holocaust. Hanging over the proceedings was one of the most important questions of our time: Could it happen again? Read more.
The RisingEvil Unveiled on March 1 Was Nicolae Carpathia a kind, caring kid? What were his parents like? Who was Rayford Steele's first love? Why did he finally decide to give God a chance? These questions are only the beginning.
Scores of readers want to know the behind-the-scenes stories of their favorite Left Behind characters. An upcoming trilogy by Jerry Jenkins and Tim LaHaye will provide the amazing answers. Go back to the future with the beginning of the story, The Rising.
