Left Behind Series Featured on Upcoming 60 Minutes
WHEATON, IL (Feb. 2, 2004)—Left Behind series authors Tim LaHaye and Jerry B. Jenkins are the subjects of a feature story on the February 8 edition of the CBS program 60 Minutes.
LaHaye and Jenkins were interviewed last fall by correspondent Morley Safer in Dallas, Texas. Part of the interview with Jenkins was filmed inside a Family Christian Store in Irving, Texas.
60 Minutes producers approached LaHaye and Jenkins because of the their apocalyptic novels' tremendous crossover appeal. The series has now sold more than 60 million copies. The segment explores the cultural trends behind the Left Behind series' success.
This is Jenkins' and LaHaye's first appearance on a prime-time news magazine program. Of the interview with Safer, Jenkins said, "It was good to find him, off camera, an old sports fan. I had a good time getting to know him a little."
In the course of the story, Safer also speaks with Tommy Ice, head of the Pre-Trib Research Center and co-author of The Truth Behind Left Behind (March 04/Multnomah), and a group of Left Behind readers.
